Log In as Another Salesforce User

One of the ‘go-to’ requirements when testing Salesforce has to be User Profiles. How many times has a development gone LIVE only for the end Users to raise a LIVE Issues relating to access to a Salesforce object/app? As a Salesforce QA, you should always ask your PM/Developer/Stakeholders if User Profiles should be included in the Test Coverage.

When you have several Users with different profiles and access, it is possible to quickly log in as these users from an Salesforce Admin user. This saves countless minutes and hours tracking different usernames and passwords when in your testing phase.

How to grant Access to an Administrator User

  • From your personal settings, enter Login Access in the Quick Find box, then select the option to grant login access.
  • Set the access expiration date by choosing a value from the picklist.
    Click Save

How to Login as a different User

  • From Setup, enter Users in the Quick Find box, then select Users.
  • Click the Login link next to the username. This link is available only for users who have granted login access to an administrator or in organisations where administrators can log in as any user.
  • To return to your administrator account, click User’s Name | Logout.

Next time you are testing with multiple Users, try the above and see if you can gain some QA time back (which you have no doubt lost due to overrunning Dev!!)

Even as a Salesforce QA, we recommend that you sign up for your very own FREE Salesforce Developers account where you can try out the above and apply hands on knowledge to an Org without the fear of messing up any Production configuration.
