JIRA Tips and Tricks
JIRA is a software development tool that can be used in the Agile Methodology. It allows users to create user stories and issues, plan sprints, and distribute tasks across your software team. You can prioritise and discuss your team’s work in full context with complete visibility as well as create real-time, visual data for your team and project stakeholders.
If like me you spend the majority of your working day using JIRA, it can be useful and extremely efficient to know how to use JIRA shortcuts like a JIRA Jedi! Here are some of our favourites.
Z -Detail View / Projector Mode
When viewing your Sprint, use the ‘Z’ button to rotate through the Detail/Project Mode view.
- Press Z once to collapse the Headers.
- Press Z twice to add a high-contrast to your columns.
- Press Z three times to return to the normal mode.
C – Create Issue
In JIRA, when you want to create a New Issue, dont waste time figuring out where you have to click or what page you need to access to create a new issue. Just press ‘C’ and you will instantly see the Create Issue window.
Easy as 1,2,3
The following 3 keyboard shortcuts could be any easier to use or remember, but save a considerable amount of mouse click throughout a working day.
- Pressing 1 on the keyboard will show the User the current Backlog.
- Pressing 2 on the keyboard will display the Active Sprint.
- Pressing 3 on the keyboard will show the associated reports.
T -It’s all in the Detail
While viewing a Kanban/Sprint pressing the letter ‘T’ will show/hide the Detail View – a great way to quickly de-clutter your screen and allow you to focus on exactly what you need to be doing.
Quick Search
A quick press of the forward slash key ‘/’ will slide out the Search menu to help quickly locate the record that you are after.
